Default Influx of new players

Despite all that is said about GW being dead we still have newbies joining this game. I sometimes park myself in ascalon, and its clear that there are still tons of newcomers. They do what us vets laugh at, try to sell their starter armor, ask for a free weapon etc. Some might qualify for the stupidest comment thread, some just ask basic questions or ask for some help. Some are 12 years and rude and believe they know all about GW after having finished Prophecies.
But many of them are just random grownups who bought gw cheap and try it out.
I had a nice chat with a guy, I bought a z key he had as a gift from him, and we had a talk about armors, dyes, tonics, he had no idea why there was suddenly a monster inside town....

I gave some simple advice and enjoyed the chat.

Think of it. Lets not be arrogant to newbs. Lets welcome them and help them out a bit. Noobs we can hate, but let's welcome the newbies who just want to learn the game

The influx of new players is not a particular surprise. Sitting around Kama/Shing Jea/Pre makes it pretty clear.

The real question is how many of those noobs will maintain interest long enough to get to KC/LA/Consulate Docks? And how many of those will keep playing after?

Not many, I'm afraid.

Why wouldn't they?

I agree with Raven Wing that we should be nice to the newbs and offer our help to them. There is this new guy in my guild who just bought the game and had no idea what almost anything is. He was pretty excited seeing all of the minipets in towns and he was asking how to get one. It was pretty awesome seeing how excited he was when i gave him a kirin and mursaat i had stuffed in my storage.

Seeing all of these new players joining the game definitely proves that the game is far from "dead" as some would have people believe.

If we see some of them being nice, then lets be nice to them too Maybe they will stick around to populate the game in the dead time before gw2 comes out. I do hope it will be at christmas time this year, but it can last another year...
(yes im perfectly aware that you can get gw almost for free these days and that atracts tons of ppl that arent really interested)

Why don't they, you mean?

If you have offy privileges in the guild, I dare you to try sitting around pre-searing or Shing Jea monastery and recruit as many new players as you can in a 3 day period.

Then watch how many of them are still logging on a few weeks later. It'll be quite the drop-off I'm willing to bet.

... To the extreme. Their main draw in the game is vanity items that have no bearing or effect on actual gameplay. @ the very least it's a mini Kirin and Mursaat that will be off the GW mini market in a couple of weeks.

I suggesting banning all old players which log to the game just to moan and pollute the atmosphere, so those who actually want to try this game out and have some decent fun will be able to

Just a friendly advice. Community is not as laid-back and friendly as it used to be. Think of it, each time you are moan to newcomers.

All old players are moaning and lurking on forum while playing the game in theory. (ow andd waiting for gw2)
Actual gameplay is on events, bounties and updates.

I agree with OP we should be nice to newcomers. But the thing is, I kind of see where Gennadios is coming from as well. Let face most of GW world are pretty much deserted, so these players come into the game and have to do everything solo. This might just be the reason why some of them quit too early. Imagine that being in a town and spamming LFG for an hour with not even one response. Only a fortunate few even figure out that you can join a guild. And even less people can find themselves over to sites like Guru for help. I am not saying that we should just give up helping them, but Gennadios has a valid point.

Does it matter if they stay? ANet has there money anyway. And, most of the good ones will stay. Who cares if the 10 year olds leave?

yep, several times when i've found myself bored i just map to Ascalon and start asking riddles with a prize of a z-key or some gold. Fun way to keep me entertained as well as letting some newbies get some gold. Even though 3k isn't much to most a newer player will shit themselves if they got it.

This.

It's cheap, been on sale quite a few times on steam, and has gotten a lot of positive feedback from the gaming community. There are some people who try it and don't like it.

I was reading this while doing some randomway for the Zquest in HA and had a necro on my team he had flesh golem and everyone started calling him a noob. And he was saying im sorry. So i was nice enough to help him out I though i just show him a build and give him a couple of tips. Little did I no he had only 1k balth faction total. So i ran him from LA to droks and caped Spiteful spirits and gave him and RA bar for it and told him how to use it. He tried to give me 10k for helping him but i declined it and told him to learn to play to repay me.

I mean seriously, if someone buys a game I would hope they wouldn't give up because some old tard talked bad to them in it.

New people has been a blessing in disguise for me.

I have basically turned into a chest running grinder that likes to help new players. Not complicated, but what else do i have to do now anyway. I enjoy helping people and they hopefully appreciate it.

When people say Guild Wars is dead they are generally referring to the pvp aspect which was the strong point of the game. I don't say this being biased (I do not gvg) I say this because it is the truth and Guild Wars pvp was close, if not the best pvp of any mmorph out there.

When the PvP community says GW is dead, that's generally what they're referring to.

The PvE peeps have their own gripes. The only part of PvE that's still kicking is the high-end content.

There simply aren't enough veteran players re-playing the low level crap to help out the young'uns. It's been close to 6 months since I've made my final char, and even then I henched most of the early content. I can safely say the rest of the established players have a similar story.

Some of those newbs know more than they let on. I think some of them are playing from scratch after losing their accounts a short time back. Someone will ask a question about basic game play, or for a handout, then 10 or 15 minutes later answer a question about late game content with great detail.
I "helped" someone that "didn't" know how to do a mission. (The Wall mission.) As soon as I joined his team and added 2 heroes, he started the mission. His first time through, he was running and getting the armor pieces for the bonus. So much for not knowing how to do the mission.
